A 21-day cycle is on the shortest limit of what medical professionals consider a normal menstrual cycle (21โ35 days). If your cycle is regularly 21 days, ovulation happens very early.
Calculating Ovulation Day
- Formula: 21 days (total cycle) โ 14 days (luteal phase) = Day 7
- The Result: Ovulation typically occurs on Day 7 of your cycle.
Your Fertile Window (Days 2โ8)
Because you ovulate on Day 7, your fertile window starts almost immediately after your bleeding starts:
- Day 2โ4: You may still be menstruating, but because sperm can survive, intercourse on these days can lead to pregnancy.
- Day 5โ7: Peak fertility.
- Day 8: Window closes.
If your cycle is consistently shorter than 21 days, or varies widely, it is recommended to speak with a healthcare provider to ensure you are ovulating.
